What you'll see

How to get there

Pick it up from the Kaya road just outside Göreme, or join it from the Rose/Red junction at the far end. Either way you finish a short walk or dolmuş ride from Göreme centre.

Best time to walk it

Afternoon, as part of a sunset loop with Rose and Red. Comfortable across the walking season; the partial shade helps in summer.

What to bring

Frequently asked questions

What is special about Meskendir Valley?

Its carved rock tunnels and arches — you walk through passages cut into the tuff rather than just along a path.

How does Meskendir fit the sunset loop?

Walkers usually do Rose + Red Valley out to the sunset terraces, then return to Göreme through Meskendir to close the loop.

Is it an easy walk?

Yes — about 3 km, easy, with only gentle ups and downs.

Do I need a torch?

Bring one — the tunnels are dark, and it is handy if you are returning near dusk after sunset.
